A 9cm transverter using an Ionica receive converter and the "big board"

If you read the 9cm PA article, you might have noticed that I like taking a hacksaw to expensive electronic equipment. To use the big board parts you have to carefully identify the bit you want and saw it out.

Referring back to the split up picture , the main upconverter consists of sections 7-13.

Before you do any cutting, find the +10 volt supply line in each cut out section by buzzing it back to the yellow tantalum capacitor (+) at the top of section 7. Make sure that you know where the +10 should be in each of sections 8-13 because cutting will break the supply feed leaving tou to make up a couple oflinks to reconnect it.

Actually only part of 13 is used, so I left the lower part behind. measure down 13.5cm from the top of the board and cut just below the mixer on unit 12. Cut down a line 8cm from the left of the board along the gold ground track. Also cut out section 5, the2.5GHz buffer splitter .

This leaves the board as below

You should now be able to re link the +10 volyt supllies and jhave the working bits you need.
